• e.l.f. Brightening Eye Color quads

Let’s just keep rolling all over the cheap, eh? I do have a few interesting things coming up in the future… I finally got my hands on the Sugarpill Sweetheart palette, plus I’ve already had one of my two UDPP squeeze tube orders to come in (yesss!), so I’m sure I’ll have some things to say about those. But I’ve purchased a lot of e.l.f. in the month of March, and I’m slowly but surely working my way through it all.

In my big order from the website, I macked a freebie gift for annoying friends with spam (LOL SORRY GUYZ!!1!one), which was one of their Eye Brightening Color quads, in “Butternut”. Nice, calm, work-friendly neutrals.

When I say ‘work friendly’, I do mean I have been testing this on work days, especially when I’m waking up far too late to be fussed with putting on makeup. It’s an experiment, see… can I make a habit of actually taking fifteen minutes out of my late-sleeper mornings to make with the pretty and presentableness before work?  The fun thing about this quad is that I can totally manage it.  This quad features a pale nude, a nude-peach, a deep brown, and a very frosty bronze. The shadows are all very creamy, though the nude shades are a slight bit gritty due to a small about of shimmer.   The colours pick up easily, show up brilliantly without a lot of packing, blend without a whole lot of effort. Plus this one is very well balanced for the simplest of looks. Using the far-left colour as a highlight, the inside left on the inner lid, and the far right on the outer lid/crease, and a quick lining with NYX Grey eyeliner pencil, I have a very fast, completely brainless look that won’t get me fired.  I like it. I’m down with this. I stand behind this quad 100%.

Being so impressed with the color payoff of this quad, I trucked over to Target and picked up their craziest one: Punk Funk.

This one features a frosty white, a matte dusty blue with a subtle reflects, a matte pink-based purple with subtle reflects, and a sparkly hot pink. The texture of these shadows vary greatly, from creamy (from left) to somewhat chalky (to right). I suppose this is just part of e.l.f. glitter shadows… the sparklier they are, the less pleasant the feel.  This does make application difficult, and could pose a problem in terms of fading — I had a hard time keeping the pink colour vibrant on a primer  alone (UDPP Sin). Once I added Fyrinnae Pixie Epoxy to the mix, however, I had no trouble with keeping that pink true to pan.  The white and blue are easy to build over PE, as well. That purple, though… forget it. Good purples are hard to come by, and I wouldn’t expect e.l.f. to get it right.

If you’re willing to work with this quad, and have Pixie Epoxy on hand (as you should — everyone should), this is a rather good quad to have on hand, for the pink if nothing else.

I’m looking forward to trying more of these quads over the summer, as I’m sure I’ll pick up one or two every paycheck. At $1 per quad, I don’t see why I wouldn’t. If there are any in particular that you’ve seen and would like me to review, comment here!
