30 Day Fashion/Beauty Photo Challenge: A Good Memory
Clothing/Product THat Evokes a Good Memory:
Back in the day, when the boyf was still living in Florida, I’d fly down for a weekend, or a week, or in the case of the Christmas/New Year season, somewhere close to two weeks. On those extended trips, a little bottle of travel shampoo ain’t gonna do you any good. Seeing as I didn’t want to pay checked baggage fees, I just asked if he’d be so kind as to take me to a Bath & Body Works when I arrived, so I could load up on some Mango Mandarin shampoo and conditioner.
Problem: We went to every single BB-Dub in town, but none of them had Mango Mandarin in stock. Not wanting to waste all his effort, I just picked up Coconut Lime Verbena shampoo and conditioner. Definitely not my favourite – it wasn’t “citrusy” enough for me, but it was either that or Moonlight Path (which is a loud, booming “ah heyall nah!”).
Fast forward to a few months after the trip, when I take a sniff of CLV, and I start to feel all warm and fuzzy inside. The fragrance, which was previously unexciting to me, was now inextricably tied to memories of being in St Pete. Not just the trip on which I was using the fragrance, but every memory of every trip. The first kiss. The Juggalos at Janus (and our evil plot to release scientifically-enhanced bees on all the Faygo-soaked kiddies). Watching the lighthouse blinking off on the horizon of St Pete Beach. Having dinners with his Mom. My first trip to a freestanding MAC store. The “Radioheadboard” in our room at the Heritage. Laughing until my sides hurt at MST3K. Everything that has ever happened there now smells like CLV.
And it breaks my heart that it isn’t available anymore. Oh sure, you can get Coconut Lime Breeze, but it’s just not the same. They took out the verbena and threw in bergamot instead, and amped up the lime-fragrance. So I can’t bear to use what CLV I managed to grab at the last Semi-Annual Sale. I just pop the cap and sniff it from time to time, and take a little vacation in my head…
