• Makeup Madness!

Posted on February 12th, 2011, 12:21 am by Miss Bekka

To celebrate the long-awaited arrival of my financial aid residual check, I went a little makeup crazy. I’m still waiting on a blush that I swapped on MUA (international swap – it might just take a bit), but everything else I’ve ordered/swapped has arrived! I’m going to have way too much fun playing with this stuff over the next few days. Luckily I already depotted all of my other MAC eyeshadows, so the “work” part of it all is already out of the way (I’ll depot the new one as soon as I can find my replacement pans).  I won’t bore you with the details of reviews, since this isn’t a beauty blog… with the exception of the Sugarpill palette. Even though they’ve definitely been the talk of the makeup community since before they officially opened shop, I think that as a young company, they still deserve some rave reviews and new customers. So I’ll probably post my impressions after I’ve played with them for a while.

Anywho! Here’s a snapshot of my little haul:

    Oh my stars and sparkles!

    What it is:
Sugarpill Burning Heart Quad featuring “Flamepoint”, “Buttercupcake”, “Love+”, and “Poison Plum”.

Urban Decay Summer of Love Palette featuring “Flash”, “Maui Wowie”, “Chopper” & “Smog” eyeshadows, “Bourbon” 24/7 eyeliner, and Primer Potion in “Sin”. (looks like they’re sold out on the site now… but you can still find it on ebay for cheap!)

MAC “Plum Dandy” Lipstick (B2M freebie!), “Shroom” eyeshadow, “Underage” Lipglass (mini – swapped), “Wonderstruck” Lustreglass (mini – swapped), and MAC 15-slot Pro Palette.

Whew! God knows I should be done, but I made the mistake of dropping into Sephora after I visited the MAC counter today, and I really think I need tokidoki ciao ciao. Oh man. What have I done?

  • What’s Happs

You know, sometimes I forget this thing even exists. Rather sad, innit?

So, what’s been going on in my world lately? I rocked another 4.0 last semester, and this semester is shaping up to be pretty awesome as well. I’ve been shaping up some ideas for my senior research project, and getting rather involved in the Psych department. So much so that I was freshly elected president of the Psych Club… which I think is a somewhat odd thing to happen in the middle of the academic year. It’ll look nice on grad school applications, innit?

In the work sphere, I landed a seasonal job at one of my most favourite stores on the planet, fully expecting to get drop-kicked when the holiday shopping season was over. But somehow, I managed to stay on. The hours are extremely slim now, and I’ll probably have to pick up a second job over the summer, but I’m just happy to be there.

Things in the family sphere got pretty hectic back in August, and that has partially settled down in the past month… but I still worry about my mom’s health. She has been pushing herself way too hard, trying to keep everyone and everything together – to the point of her going to the ER because her back is playing tricks again. It gets on my nerves that I’m not close enough to really help her and Dad out more… all I really do is offer phone-support. And phone support isn’t much of a help if she slips and falls on her ass when nobody else is home. Yeah. I get to sit here being worried, while nobody else seems to notice or care just how seriously bad her physiological state really is.

    Bah.

So hell, let’s not dwell on that unhappiness. With the new semester came a new chunk of financial aid… and I splurged a wee bit and went makeup crazy. I have an Urban Decay and Sugarpill palette coming in, some MAC lipglasses, a blusher from TheBalm, and a 15-slot MAC palette for which to insert depots. Yep, I’m depotting my MAC eyeshadows. Never thought I’d see the day when that’d happen… but it just makes sense to conserve space. What’s even better is that everything was either deeply discounted or ‘free’ (rather, swapped out on MUA). The only thing I really dropped coin on was that Sugarpill palette, which came out to $39 shipped. So I’m really chuffed to have landed so many sweet bargains. I’m sure there will be some epic picture posts of my haul to follow.

  • Getting In Gear

What we have here, are placesettings. Plates, knives, forks, glasses, and all sorts of other neat and groovy things. Sadly, you have no idea what I’m talking about, as I’m not going to post photographic evidence. Which, I suppose means, “it didn’t happen”. But the fact that I experienced part of this setting-getting expedition myself, as well as Kev, who braved a sea of cheap silverware to discover a treasure by the name of Pfaltzgraff, I would say it did happen, regardless. Besides, we have the receipts.

Meanwhile, sometime last week (more like Tuesday), my loan check arrived in the mail. Deposited it on Wednesday before class, and then went to class. First up is LOGIC, where our bastard instructor informs us that he is teaching the most difficult and fast paced section at the University, and that we should drop if we don’t like to work hard. And then Friday, after calling roll and finding that a fair portion of folk did indeed drop, informed us that it was all a lie, but we should enjoy the extra elbow-room anyway. Which still makes him sort of a bastard, but the good sort at least.
Next up is Anthropology, which includes two papers and three exams, plus weekly recitation. Then Women and Gender Studies in the Arts and Humanities, which seems like a lot more work than it should be for such a bunny-foo-foo class. But it was nice when, as I was called out to explain why I chose Social Work as a major, and replied “because I’m nutty as a fruitcake,” she replied, “That’s exactly why I went into English.” Finally, after just barely enough of a break to shove some food down my throat, is Statistics, which I know I am going to hate. Badly. But at least the textbook isn’t required.
I think I will be pleased with this semester. It’ll probably be more work than the last, but at least I won’t be as bored as I was in the last.

Some new things that class[money] have heralded: A coat, three shirts, two sweaters, a fine winter hat, and two more pairs of legwarmers. All on clearance, baby! Plus the above-mentioned housewares, with two mixing bowls and a rather nice pie dish.

Another change this past week has brought is Kev’s [Lazer] moving-in to glostix. I asked if he’d be interested in blogging together here on a whim, and he said he was down with it, so I got things all re-arranged and freshened-up for him. Looks nice, no? Don’t know how often he’ll post (not that I post very often anyway, hah!), but I’m tickled pink to have him on board :) WE has a website! Huzzah!!

  • It’s Christmas!

Or something like it, anyway.  I now have in my hands the replacement Sony Ericsson w580i, its case, a nifty bluetooth headset (Motorola HT820), my external HD (WesternDigital My Passport Essential 160GB), and the case for that as well.  Still two things left to come in (which I’m not hurting for), plus my ecology books (one of which I am hurting for), but most of the absolute essentials are in, so I am a happy girl.  Just wish my media files would transfer to the HD faster.  FAAAASTER.  That’s what I get for being a music junkie, I guess.

On the subject of holiday bliss, though… I’m faced with the feeling of not even wanting to be around here for Christmas.  It’s rather odd… every other time I’ve tried to be away for the holiday, I’ve failed miserably (then again, the circumstances for which I was being away were pretty fucking fail, too).  But now, the very thought of being all ha-ha-happy-christmas with fresh young SNERTy attitudes makes me feel rather ill.  I know, yes, I was the same way at one time, but for the moment, in my bitter elderly cane-shaking fury, I must say I think teenagers are only good for one thing: asking me “would you like to try a combo meal today?”

Maybe my mind will change with time, but the idea of just getting a hotel room and declaring it “Fuck All” Day sounds mighty fine.

Meh. I’m too easily bugged by little things. But I suppose it is kind of alright to be able to claim that I know how it feels to be the Queen of England.

Phone line is fixed, should hopefully be keeping connections for longer than before. Got a better laptop case. Read: backpack with laptop compartment rather than laptop case. Had a sloppy ass-burrito for lunch which keeps coming back for a second taste (*urp*), so I’m kind of chipper. Also got a whole round of new earrings for a buck a pair. Eat my steel, meatheads:

    Earrings
Kind of messy, but I like the weight.  *leans over*
Laundry must be done, then dinner (taco salad… the mexican never ends!).  I sure would like to find my SW book seeing as that class is TOMORROW zomg.  Uhhh I so don’t want to do this.  I so don’t want to go back.  Why can’t I just be a trophy wife?  Just smile and look pretty?  Yeah no, I have to do everything the hard way…
